How To Bring Montessori Into Your Home With Flower Arranging. Bringing Montessori into your home doesn’t have to be expensive or complicated. With just a little preparation, you can easily practice Montessori principles with your child at home every day.
Doing so will be an invaluable bridge that will ease your young student’s transition back to school and reinforce what he or she learns there.

Flower Arranging is a wonderful practical life activity that helps students work on several skills: pouring water with the funnel into the vase, using scissors to cut the stems of the flowers, and inserting the stems into the vase with care and precision. Senses of smell, touch and sight also come into play in this activity.
One of the basic ideas of the Montessori philosophy is that if children are surrounded by beauty and order from an early age, they will learn to value and care for their environment. Flower Arranging gives a child the added benefit of creating that beauty and experiencing the sense of pride.
If you’d like to take the Flower Arranging activity a little further, you can help your child name the parts of the plant and flower, which introduces them to botany work and new vocabulary words.
The Flower Arranging activity can be as simple or complex as needed and cater to each child’s individual ability. You may help your child if they are not quite ready for a specific step (such as working with scissors, for a toddler), but allow them to do all that they feel they can succeed at on their own (including clean-up)!
