Hand-Made Gift Ideas for Mother’s Day

La Prima CasaCelebrations, Home Learning

Mother’s Day is the perfect time for children to use their learned skills to create memorable gifts for their moms. A hand-made gift from her little one is on top of every mom’s gift list – whether it’s the father helping with the crafts or a set time for crafts with mom on Mother’s Day. After all, what can be better than spending extra time with your little one to create Mother’s Day-themed crafts?

“Children must grow not only in the body but in the spirit, and the mother longs to follow the mysterious spiritual journey of the beloved one who tomorrow will be the intelligent, divine creation, man.” – Dr. Maria Montessori

To get your creative juices flowing, we put together a list of fun and simple Mother’s Day gift activities that you can work on with your child. These Montessori-inspired crafts will help build your child’s confidence and independence and improve their fine motor skills and creativity.

1. Handprint Flower Tote Bags.

Use your child’s handprints to decorate a plain tote bag. Just apply some washable paint on their hands and enjoy “painting” flowers on the bag with their handprints. Test your child’s creative side to see what shapes they can create with their hands and fingers.

2. Wooden Spoon Plant Markers.

Looking for a Mother’s Day craft idea with a little bit of education? Check out this activity that helps get your child out in the garden and learn about plants and vegetables. Make wooden spoon plant markers by simply painting and labeling wooden kitchen spoons. Go a step further and teach your child about gardening and planting seeds.

3. Craft Stick Flower Pots.

Looking for a no-mess craft idea? This simple activity will keep the paint off your child’s fingers while adding a pop of color to your home decor. Just place the colored craft sticks around a tin can and wrap a piece of ribbon around the can to hold the craft sticks tight. Fill the can with soil and plant a flower to finish up this craft stick flower pot project. Super easy, but the end result is just so cute!

Other than crafts, Montessori schools often celebrate this special day with a Mother’s Day tea. This special tea is a great way to honor mothers and help instil manners and courtesy in young children.

On Mother’s Day, celebrate the mom with a special surprise tea ceremony at home. Whether it’s the dad or mom helping with the planning, encourage your child to take charge of the special tea. Mom will love the effort, independence, and creativity shown by her little one.
