Five Ways to Celebrate 4th of July the Montessori Way

As we are getting ready to celebrate the 4th of July this weekend, following many of our favorite traditions may not be an option. Yet, there are still plenty of safe ways to commemorate the birthday of our nation, including the Montessori way. Here are a few suggestions:

1. Educate Your Child About American History. Take a virtual walking tour of our Nation’s most iconic landmark buildings, such as the Capitol, Supreme Court, Library of Congress and other key sites in Washington, DC – all from the comfort of your home. Architect’s Virtual Capitol offers an immersive experience, taking us to the heart of American federal government.

If you prefer a trip to New York, enjoy the interactive Statue of Liberty Virtual Tour offered by the National Park Service. The tour offers panoramic views of the Statue’s exterior and interior, as well as historic images and information.

2. Plan a Family Movie Night and Learn About the Country’s Founding. A live recording of “Hamilton,” the acclaimed Broadway musical, arrives to Disney Plus on Friday, July 3.

3. Revisit the Declaration of Independence. Get into the holiday spirit by attending the National Archives reading ceremony of the Declaration in Washington, DC. Join in the 50-year tradition, as this year’s event moves to the National Archived website and Facebook page. The reading will start at 4 PM ET and will be hosted by broadcast journalist Soledad O’Brien.

4. Invite Your Child to Cook Some Patriotic Treats. Think of red, white and blue ingredients, such as strawberries, marshmallows and blueberries, and get creative! Or bake your favorite dessert and let your little one decorate it with red, white and blue sprinkles.

5. Enjoy the Fireworks – the safe way. City of Fort Lauderdale will hold its 4th of July Spectacular beginning at 9:00 PM ET and live-stream the event on Comcast Channel 78, AT&T U-verse Channel 99 and on the City of Fort Lauderdale’s YouTube channel.

City of Miami Beach will also host a Virtual Firework Display. Paired with music by the New World Symphony, the show will be available for streaming on the City’s Facebook page and will air on Channel 660 on Atlantic Broadband and Channel 99 on AT&T U-Verse.
